A good ride is a great way of making all that seem not to matter though, at least temporarily. So lucky we have our horses!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13790278181159401158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-647406862592675556.post-83196329554854512452011-01-19T16:38:07.286-07:002011-01-19T16:38:07.286-07:00Love the idea of 'zipping up your abs' for...Love the idea of 'zipping up your abs' for the halt. That's a new one on me and I am trying it in my chair as I was reading the post. I can even feel the difference in my posture.

I have recently added a new bridle and bit to my tack collection for my WB mare. The girth should be arriving any day as well... Hopefully I can start blogging about her progress as well.Cut-N-Jumphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03603347619547454296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-647406862592675556.post-71326509737535046452011-01-19T11:38:06.165-07:002011-01-19T11:38:06.165-07:00Good work. Hesitations within the trot will help your halts and eventually, the walk. The idea is to half halt enough to stop the trot for just a stride or two and then go on again immediately.

The thought is to keep Izzy thinking always forward. If she expects to have to trot off in an instant, she will tend to not drop behind your seat.

Getting connection at the walk is hard. It is easy to "override" the gait and make it a jog. The trick is to get the horse to step into the bit through her whole body. I'm sure you'll figure it out.Jeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10029423500476995817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-647406862592675556.post-34461143910539954402011-01-19T11:17:50.424-07:002011-01-19T11:17:50.424-07:00Mmmmm, bacon.......
The walk is the hardest gait ...Mmmmm, bacon.......

The walk is the hardest gait to ride correctly. Most people do too much and end up screwing up a perfectly good walk (myself included). It's hard to learn to just give the aid and then leave it alone.
