and sometimes we combine the two |
In this climate, Horse Shows run basically May-October, Football is September-early February, and everything else is spring.
I don't think my non-horse friends (or non-football friends) really get it. I certainly do things other than horse show in Horse Show Season, but shows get precedence. Same with football (and yes, game with my team>most horse shows unless there's a tri color on the line).
def for a tri color |
So how do you divide up your year?
Nice weather and sweltering... Nice weather is December to March and sweltering is the rest of the year.
ReplyDeleteJanuary - trying to horse show in wet weather - too hot - football/trying to horse show in nice weather - food binges
ReplyDeleteI guess I'l have to re-evaluate this since in four days I will no longer be in school after 19 years, but it's always been: spring, pool, football, cold. Back when I used to be fun and have a horse and actually ride and wasn't poor, showing just happened throughout all of those. But I mean, hey, I live in the South, football is religion.
ReplyDeleteThe year used to be: DAMN it's getting cold, SHIT it's freezing, OMG SPRING IS COMING TIME TO GET CRACKING, horse show season. This last year has been a bit wonky because horse show season started in July and I've been to at least one a month since then... so this year, the whole year is horse show season! But then we'll go back to my main two seasons: boo it's cold, horse show season. I do not plan on showing again all next winter!
ReplyDeleteOct-April is winter. May-September is hellfire season aka summer aka show season. And thats it. Oh december is christmas. Yes, the whole month.
ReplyDeleteAgreed with Monica, Oct-April is winter, May-September is summer, there is no in-between.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say I have a show season, as much as I have a series of show periods that start two weeks before each show whereby I go "f*^# I have a show in 2 weeks!" and go until I pull back into the barn with the trailer and decide I can relax. Then the whole cycle happens all over again for the next show. (prep is not my strong point haha)
omg, you. i like you. my stuff is dictated by exams. feb-april and august-oct is exams. showing is march-first weekend in nov.
ReplyDeletethe overlap between exam and show season is not ideal. the solution is to break your finger so you cant ride anywhere, thereby negating the conflict.
There has to be an alternate solution that involves being unable to do exams, but lots of time to horse show. That sounds better.
DeleteI believe that was childhood which I know I squandered away unappreciatively...welcome to adulting, haha!
DeleteHorse show season is Sept 1 - June 1. The rest is Summer Death Heat.
ReplyDeleteWhat she said. January is also usually TooDamnColdForPeopleUsedToSummerDeathHeat. And lately the flood seasons. Those are fun.
DeleteOoooh, I'll play
ReplyDeleteOct -Feb. Indoor season of dark and cold. Question why I live here. Wear many layers, hibernate, eat pizza and watch football.
Mar - Apr: Emerge from winter cocoon. Shake off rust. Still wearing thermals. Bemoan state of weight gain and fitness.
May - Sept. All the things!
Around here it is:
ReplyDeletealmost winter, winter, still winter, road construction
I laughed.
DeleteBetter you than me.
I basically live on DST and non DST. California's rainy season combines with non DST from Nov-March to make that whole chunk of the year really useless.
ReplyDeleteFall is hunter pace season (Oct-Nov). Spring and Summer are show season (April-Sept). Winter is just get through it the best you can season. (Dec-March)
ReplyDeleteI feel like most of our lives would be improved by canceling winter.
DeleteThen again, I like my lack of bugs and small reptiles so I guess I'll keep it.
We're more Winter, Show Season, Football out here. There is no spring. It's just a "milder" (read: wetter) winter.
ReplyDeleteI am an "avid" gardener (translation: dedicated to the point of addiction), so my year is divided into when to plant things.
ReplyDeleteHorse season is pretty much all year, thanks to the proliferation of indoor arenas in NJ. We have winter schooling shows in indoors, and sometimes it's nicer for those shows than it is when "regular" show season starts up in the spring. I've had to cancel more than one show because it was snowing in April and the farm didn't have an indoor.
I divide my year up thusly: Shedding season, summer camps, and possible rain.
ReplyDeleteI divide my year into flies and no flies, and further divide flies into camp and no camp.
ReplyDeleteI live in sports seasons I feel like. Baseball season/football season. With a small dash of Xmas season somewhere in the middle. We tend to horse show almost year around, so the fun never stops.
ReplyDeleteThis is genius. I am heretofore exterminating "winter" from my lexicon as a season.
