Winter is Coming/Ok FINE it's here and I hate it

cray cray
So yeah. Remember how it was all 70f and sunny and perfect and I was having all the pony adventures? Since like.. ever?

Well that's over with.

Cold front rolled in yesterday. I was at the barn Wednesday morning and it was 19f and windy and horrid and OH MY GOD NO I'M NOT READY FOR THIS.

Courage is, though. I had all his blankets clean, organized, and ready to go. He's rocking his new smartpak deluxe with the neck and has another one in the wings waiting to go on him.

yay water frozen on my coat
I also have winter clothes. I knew I'd have to break them out eventually, but I was thinking we could wait til like Thanksgiving maybe? Something?

In case you were at all unclear on this topic:

I.

Hate.

Winter.

I don't ski. I don't snowshoe. I don't like being cold. I appreciate that my lack of an indoor allows my horse a nice, long winter break and helps his mind and body relax, but if I could figure out a way to be warm year round, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

At least I have this to look back at.

I mean, as long as you completely ignore my position (sorry), Courage looks pretty kick ass. We've been working really har don our lesson homework, and I'm thrilled with how quickly both Courage and I were improving.

Farrier is out next week, so I'll have to decide whether I want to shoe one more round and cross my fingers it's not real winter yet, or just pull them and be done with it.

Part of me really wants to ride. The other part is like 9f isn't riding weather! (That's -22 to you Cannucks.)

So. We'll see how much tougher I get between now and Wednesday. Also how much snow we get.

WHY IS THAT A THING GO AWAY SNOW.

  1. I hate winter too. It never got out of the 40's here yesterday which is fucking crazy for Texas. It won't today either. Really over it already. Maybe if we ignore it, it'll go away.

  4. I'm just praying to the weather Gods and that b*tch Mother Nature that we don't get the 19845897 feet of snow this winter like we did last year. I'm over that crap.

  6. I like winter for a couple days. When I can put on some sweaters and scarves and jackets or just stay inside. After about a week, it get's old. I could go for some rain, though.

  15. We've got it the opposite down under. Can't ride in Summer because heat stroke. I've seen horses collapse in our heat too.
Meanwhile our winters are perfect riding weather.
I hate Summer as much as you hate Winter, I reckon.

  16. I say we all take our horses and live in a heated indoor until the winter dies. And drink lots of hot chocolate and bake lots of crap.

  17. I'm with you. I hate it. You definitely have my sympathy! I have always hated winter. I've lived in enough snow to know I never, ever want to live in a place with snow ever again. We are only 2.5 hours north of Ocala and I-75 goes right through town. Any day now the "great migration" will begin and I'll see all the big horse haulers heading south on I-75 to escape wintery hell.

  18. so sorry … still warm and sunny here in CA. We would KILL for some winter. Our drought is so severe that we would have to have apocalyptic precipitation to even come close to "even." :0(

I am still wearing sandals and tanks to work although I have tossed on a small cardigan the last few mornings. It's great riding weather, but I'd give it up in an instant for a little bit of rain. :0/

  19. Ugh I hate winter too!!!! It hasn't been out of the thirties in two days. :( It's too early for this crap!! I don't know if I would bother with the shoes... everything I'm hearing says this cold snap will last several weeks... and it may not get warm again until spring... apparently even with as much denial as was going on in my head it really is going to be a bad winter. :(

  22. I can't fathom living in a place with snow. But I love your snow pics on FB. Meanwhile we get 1/8" of "rain" (heavy mist) and all our arenas are shut down...
