But like. Nothing about a horse show sounds fun to me right now.
Oh and I've been watching Westerns lately and like.
godless. watch it. |
I live in the west. And I have a ranch bred horse.
And that is a literal thing I can actually do.
SO WE'RE DOING IT. (Soon. Snow melting off the mountains as we speak.)
guys she's not even trying yet |
Don't get me wrong here--ZB is a talented, good-minded, hard-working lady and the progress she makes in her dressage training every day is phenomenal. And yeah long term I want to get my bronze medal on her.
This isn't me abandoning those goals.
A huge part of getting Zoë to me was finding a horse that I could just flat have fun on. And y'know.
Whether it's our first outside right lead canter....
Or just hanging out with friends on a gorgeous day...
She makes me smile every day.
It's not a sayonara to horse showing. We'll get back to it. There are just so many other fun things to do right now.
I'd be silly not to.
Love this. Have fun with your beautiful lady. Riding out is good for the soul. And builds so much trust and partnership.
ReplyDeleteMy soul needs all the help it can get.
DeleteI love this. I enjoy showing, but mostly I enjoy the relationship I have with my horses. It's so fun when you have a horse that can go out and do all sort of variable things -- ZB is rocking at that. I can't wait to see what kind of western adventures you cook up! 😁
ReplyDeleteStep one: BUY A SADDLE.
DeleteWait no probably there are other steps.
Godless was a godsend and I'm 100% with you. If it weren't for the local horse trials I'd never show again. I'd rather be out riding in the woods or across plains (if we had them). There's no rush and honestly you'll have a better horse for it. ♡ She's so perfect for everything you want.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of well-rounded equine citizens.
Deletehorse shows for the typical adult ammy are only really worth if you really want to be doing them. otherwise.... what's the point? also i love that barrel video haha, what a funny goofy mare!
ReplyDeleteThe barrel video slays me.
DeleteYes please! Lets go on lots of June ZB trail rides this spring!!!!
ReplyDeleteBest idea.
DeleteGodless was amazing and she is the cutest!
ReplyDeleteEverybody wins!
DeleteFun is always the right choice. ALWATS. ESPECIALLY when work is the other one.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
DeleteFun = Sound mind, imo.
ReplyDeleteThe more you do, the more you expose her to, the better off everyone will be.
So definitely have fun!
Yeah no point in souring her on work when there are so many fun adventures to have.
DeleteEeeee lookit that lovely calm canter! Love it!
ReplyDeleteShe's a champion.
Deleteshe looks great and as long as you are having fun she doesnt care at all what you do. You are the second one to recommend Godless to me (the other was a coworker who is not even a horse person but she told me I had to watch it just to see the horses!) LOL. I have added to my queue!! Keep on having fun with the ZB :)
ReplyDeleteUh well as a horse person, I was not super impressed by the horse parts. There was some nice asides about horsemanship though. ;-)
DeleteI’m gonna need to know where I can get those lovey turquoise breeches...
ReplyDeleteBuckwild breeches. They have plaid seats!
DeleteI hate showing. Always have, probably always will. I do it only to prove to myself that I’ve hit the mark on whatever level I’m doing in dressage (except the levels with poorly written tests, I refuse to ride poorly written tests, so screw those levels). If you’ve got nothing to prove to yourself by riding the tests, why bother?
ReplyDeleteGodless was good, but that cliche ending killed me.
I thought the characters were shockingly well drawn for a western though that might be unfair to westerns. GUESS ILL WATCH MORE TO FIND OUT.
DeleteI definitely believe in showing as a meter of progress. And I love ribbons. I also need a nap and love trail rides.
Horse showing really isn't the be all end all of having horses. Go out there and do all the things and have all the fun! Horse shows will still be there if you decide you miss them. And I'm sure Zoe will be more than happy to play along, whatever you end up doing!
ReplyDeleteThat's definitely her best feature.
DeleteI'm with you - tons more fun things to do with horses than show. You go get those trails :)
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty excited about it, not gonna lie.
DeleteTbh, I first read the title as "Sagebrush over Satan" and I was pretty sure you were going to teach us some really strange ancient ritual or something.
ReplyDeleteBut if your heart isn't in showing, I think its awesome for you to just go out and enjoy time with your super amazing lil horse!
I like that you assume I’d know rituals like that. I must be doing something right.
DeleteI WANT THIS SO MUCH.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am thrilled for you that you've found such a perfect partner.
I mean. Who wouldn't? She's just the best.
DeleteWorking Equitation aka Dressage with obstacles - meant to test Portuguese ranch work. Use your dressage for a purpose! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I'd spear myself with the stupid pole. Coordinated I am not.
DeleteLovely :)
ReplyDelete:-)
DeleteI KNOW WHERE SB AND ZB CAN RIDE OFF INTO THE MAJESTIC SUNSET!!!!!!
ReplyDelete(Maybe just a little overly excited about that)
BUT IT HAS TO HAPPEN
DeleteDoes this mean y'all gonna be roping some cows?
ReplyDeleteYour faith in us is inspiring.
DeleteOr else you're smart enough to set me up for some fantastic fail pics.
Guessing #2.
Yessss do the western thing in the west where you have so many options to do the things! I can't wait to hear about it.
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda excited to see where this path leads.
DeleteIf I can learn to sit in a western saddle haha.
I'm all about doing whatever you want to do with your horse -- I don't care if it's just grooming or showing at WEF, or something in between. You should go do whatever sounds FUN!
ReplyDelete10/10 would like to show at WEF.
DeleteHahahahahahahahaha
In an alternate universe.
